Sci & Tech Committee

Last week, the Assembly Science and Technology Committee held a hearing on biomanufacturing in Wisconsin. With the resources and the institutions that we have in Wisconsin, we have the potential to be a leader in this sector. Our presenters gave a ton of great information about the opportunities we have and how we can continue to grow this field. This is not just the Madison/Milwaukee corridor. Phillips-Medisize was founded in Phillips, WI and currently has seven locations throughout rural northern Wisconsin. They have 100 positions open right now and will need more as they grow. WI's supply chain involves companies from across the state both large and small. There are tons of great opportunities to grow this sector of our economy. Click on the photo below to hear some of the opportunities we have in the biomanufacturing sector.

DNR Outdoor Recreation

Earlier this year the WI DNR held open houses throughout the northwoods to gather input on outdoor recreation opportunities in Northern and Northeastern WI. From these meetings and online submittals, the DNR developed a draft Recreation Opportunities Analysis for the Great Northwest and Upper Lake Michigan Coastal regions. The report describes the future recreation needs unique to the regions and how the DNR can support those needs.

There is an open house meeting scheduled in our district tonight, October 18th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the City of Rice Lake Building, 30 East Eau Claire Street, to provide an overview of the analysis. There will be a presentation at 5:30 p.m.

Trailblazer Awards

The Wisconsin Women's Council Governor's Trailblazer awards celebrate women's history of entrepreneurship and deep roots in Wisconsin's business community. It asks organizations and individuals to use this opportunity to raise the profile of long-standing and generational woman-owned businesses in the community. You can nominate women in our community until December 31, 2017. Here is the nomination form.

WI Leopold Conservation Award

Congratulations to Glen and Susan Wohlk from Almena for being one of three finalists in the state for the Leopold Conservation Award.
