Good to Know Info
State Wide Quarantine
The entire state of Wisconsin will be placed under quarantine for emerald ash borer (EAB), the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection announced today. The quarantine will be effective Friday, March 30.
Until now, quarantines have been imposed county by county, but now that EAB is in 48 of the state’s 72 counties, officials have decided a statewide quarantine is warranted. However, they still discourage moving firewood within the state.

Legislative Update-Extraordinary Session
Yesterday the Wisconsin State Legislature took up a package of bills aimed at school safety. I was very pleased this package of bills passed with bipartisan support. The bill package address a variety of concerns including strengthening school safety plan requirements, mandatory reporting of threats, creating a $100 million school safety grant program, and establishing an Office of School Safety within the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
AB 1031, a bill I authored that amends the bullying statute to provide a prompt parental notification within 48 hours of a bullying incident occurring, also passed after being amended. An amendment was passed that will expand and strengthen background checks. In addition to that amendment, an amendment was passed to create a 24/7 anonymous tip line to ensure no tip falls through the cracks.
Overall I am proud to join many colleagues on both sides of the aisle in support of this legislation. Below is a short 15 minute video explaining the changes to AB 1031 more in depth.

Unemployment Update
Yesterday unemployment in Wisconsin hit an ALL TIME LOW at 2.9 percent. More people are working in Wisconsin than ever before. We should be proud of this new record.
Wisconsin's Economic Opportunity Zone
This week it was announced that Wisconsin Rapids, and Nekoosa/Port Edwards have been recommended to become one of Wisconsin's Economic Opportunity Zones.
The Economic opportunity Zone Program is a federal community development tax incentive program which creates an incentive for businesses and community members to invest in these areas. Click Here to read more about it.
