Good News of 2017

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) announced that 59 businesses worked with their organization in 2017 to expand or relocate their operations in Wisconsin to make it a historic year for our economy!

What's New

Governor Walker plans to close both juvenile correction facilities known as Lincoln Hills School and Copper Lake School and repurpose them to medium-security adult correctional facilities. The juveniles currently housed in Lincoln County would be relocated to five smaller facilities across the state, including one mental health facility, Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center. This plan would expand Wisconsin's internationally recognized mental health treatment program to include young women. Operating and conversion costs would come from the Department of Corrections and Department of Health Services agency budgets funded by the Governor's 2019-21 Executive Budget.
Watch for movement on Assembly Bill 791 I co-authored that has aspects of this plan.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is providing federal grant money to three regional opioid treatment centers set up under the Heroin, Opioid, Prevention and Education (HOPE) agenda so that they may augment their addiction treatment programs. One of those regional centers, Family Health La Clinica of Wautoma, will receive $666,667 and will be able to serve those with opioid and methamphetamine addictions in nearby Adams county. The goal is to successfully provide access to addiction treatment services close to home for those in high-need areas.
For more information regarding grants to additional regional centers and surrounding counties to be served, please read the DHS news release.
