Good to Know Info

Consumer Alert

Louie’s Finer Meats, Cumberland, is recalling teriyaki-flavored beef jerky, because the seasoning used contains wheat and no warning was included on the label. Wheat allergens can be very serious for some people. For details about which packages are being recalled and to view the product click here.

Consumer Alert

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is aware of a phishing scam that impersonates Department employees. Protect yourself and your financial information by not clicking on and opening the email. Read DATCP's alert for details.

In Progress Legislation

The public hearing on AB 577, Harvest to Hope, went well. There were good questions from those in favor of the legislation as well as those who oppose it. We will look to have an executive session on the bill early next month.

Additionally, our Hops bill continues to be out for co-sponsorship at this time.

Governor Scott Walker Seeks Applicants for

Non-Traditional Student Representative on the
University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents

Governor Scott Walker is seeking applicants for the non-traditional student representative on the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents.

The undergraduate student representative must be at least 24 years of age and represent the views of non-traditional students, such as those who are employed or who are parents; this regent will serve for two years. The representative must be enrolled at least half-time in a University of Wisconsin institution, be in good academic standing, be a Wisconsin resident, and be enrolled for their entire term.

Please note that due to students from UW-River Falls and UW-Eau Claire having recently served on the board, no applications may be accepted from these institutions.

The Board of Regents is responsible for establishing policies and rules for governing the System, planning to meet future state needs for collegiate education, setting admission standards and policies, reviewing and approving university budgets, and establishing the regulatory framework within which the individual units are allowed to operate with as great a degree of autonomy as possible. Board members attend eight regular meetings per year, serve on special committees, serve as liaisons with at least two UW institutions, and perform related duties.

If you are interested in applying for the position, please submit the following:

Application: Online application, cover letter, resume, and essay

The online application will require uploading a cover letter, resume, and essay found on Governor Walker’s website:  https://walker.wi.gov/apply-to-serve

The deadline for submitting application materials is noon on Friday, January 5, 2018.  Potential applicants with questions about the appointment process may contact Dan Sievert at 608-266-1212.

This is a great opportunity to hold a coveted seat on the UW Board of Regents and represent your fellow students, affecting change.
