MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) -- A central Wisconsin legislator has been named to a new task force. Democratic Assembly Representative Katrina Shankland of Stevens Point has been named to the Speaker's Task Force on Youth Workforce Readiness.

Shankland is already the Assistant Minority Leader, and was nominated for this post by Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca. Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos appointed Shankland as Vice Chair of the task force.

After the appointment, Shankland issued a statement saying, “During my tours of major employers in Central Wisconsin and across the state, I have heard over and over again how crucial their need is for highly-trained workers. I’m excited to help lead this task force and create opportunities for students to pursue careers in high-demand fields. By promoting internships, apprenticeships, and continuing education, we will work to ensure that young people have the skills they need to transition into family-supporting jobs.”
