Democrats in the state legislature tout an energy policy that puts Wisconsin utilities on course to achieving 30 percent renewable energy by the year 2030.

Senator Mark Miller (D-Monona) says as equipment upgrades are needed, changes could be made.

The group says adopting a more robust renewable energy standard would enhance reliability, reduce dependence on out-of-state fuels, create jobs here in the state, and invest in Wisconsin-based energy generation.

The state’s current mandate is 10 percent by 2015. Miller says he realizes this bill is going nowhere in the current Republican-controlled legislative session, but he says as the election season and the next session approaches, it’s important to have a plan.
