Public forum focuses on proposed cuts to UW system
STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - A proposed cut to the UW System was the focus of a public forum in Stevens Point Thursday night.
State Representative Katrina Shankland (D-Stevens Point) hosted the event on the campus of UW Stevens Point.
Shankland took questions and listened to concerns from the more than 150 people in attendance.
The Stevens Point democrat is hoping forums like the one that took place Thursday night will give people the opportunity to get involved in the budget process.
"I think it's time for everyone to speak up on this budget and talk about how it will affect them personally, it's time to talk about, to our Legislatures but also the Governor, what this budget will do to them," said Representative Shankland.
Governor Scott Walker is proposing $300 million in cuts to the UW system. In exchange, the universities will have more control over decision making in the system.
