STEVENS POINT, Wis. --The Department of Workforce Development secretary stopped by the Sentry Insurance IT Co-op today.

Secretary Caleb Frostman toured the location with State Rep. Katrina Shankland.

The Sentry Insurance program offers UW-Stevens Point students opportunities to work on company projects. During the school year, students work between 12-19 hours a week. They can work full-time during the summer.

After graduating, Sentry Insurance offers positions to the students.

Secretary Frostman said he was impressed by the program.

“We’re really big proponents of partnering educational institutions with private industry and other groups as well,” Frostman said. “It’s really nice to see private folks getting involved with the university system.”

He also commented on the recent layoffs in central and northern Wisconsin.

“So it definitely has an impact on communities and we send our rapid response team into those communities to help place folks,” Frostman said. “So we’re really aggressive in trying to be strategic in helping those folks find their next step. Whether it’s in retail, in IT or in something else. We want to find the best marriage of those folks’ skillsets with what’s out there.”
