PLOVER, Wis (WSAW) -- On Saturday thousands of wreaths were placed at several memorials to honor those who have served in the military for our country.

Each December wreath-laying ceremonies are held at Arlington National Cemetery and more than 1,400 locations in all 50 states. The goal is to remember and honor, veterans, active duty members and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

“It’s important that we honor our veterans because they have given us our freedoms,” stated Judy Mason, as she attended the ceremony held at the Korean War Memorial in Plover. “It’s also important to show our children what the past means so that we do not inflict the same harms onto other people,” she added.

Wreaths were laid at exactly 11:00 a.m. nationwide. Several elected officials patriated in the ceremonies at all levels of the government.

“During this season of giving when our service men and women are sometimes forgotten and our veterans who have paid the ultimate sacrifice could be forgotten, this day allows us to honor them,” included Representative Katrina Shankland, 71st Assembly District.

The wreaths laid at the Korean War Memorial in Plover were moved after the ceremony to grave sites of those who died in World War One.
