UWSP students rally in Madison against program cuts

MADISON, WIS. (WSAW) A group of students and faculty from UW campuses across the state are rallying at the Capitol Wednesday to speak out against program cuts, including a proposal to cut several arts and humanities majors at UW Stevens Point.

Those attending the "Reclaim the UW" rally are urging Governor Walker, legislators and university administrators to commit to investing in the UW System, which the group says has been noticeably absent during the last eight years of Governor Walker's administration.

The group is marching to the East Wing of the Capitol to hand-deliver a letter to the Governor in opposition to the proposed cuts.

State Representative Katrina Shankland (D) from Stevens Point and State Superintendent and Democratic candidate for Governor Tony Evers are speaking at the event.
