Child Sales Tax Rebate Filing Period Opens

May 14, 2018

Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, May 15, 2018, parents can apply on-line for a $100-per-child sales tax rebate. Claims need to be made by July 2, 2018. According to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, most rebates will be paid within three weeks.

“I want to make sure parents in Racine County know that they have file a claim to get a $100 dollar rebate for each child under 18,” said Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester). “This is yet another example of how the good economy and our sound fiscal management are benefiting families across our state.”

Parents can file the claim at childtaxrebate.wi.gov. In order to receive the child sales tax rebate, the child must be under the age of 18 by the end of last year, a dependent for the 2017 tax year, a U.S. citizen and a resident of Wisconsin.

“I’m proud that Republicans have reduced taxes by more than $8 billion since 2011 and we’re not done yet,” said Speaker Vos. “We’ll continue to fund the right priorities for the state but also look for ways to reduce government spending and the amount of taxes you pay.”

Later this summer, taxpayers will get another break through a sales tax holiday, which will run from August 1 through August 5. The nearly $15 million tax break will eliminate sales tax on school supplies and clothing under $75 as well as certain computers and supplies.
