Rep. Kremer Statement on SB 35 and SB 70 Signed into Law
Madison, WI – Today Governor Walker signed SB 35 (Wisconsin Act 22) and SB 70 (Wisconsin Act 23) into law, eliminating the 48 hour hold on handgun purchases and allowing off duty and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed weapons on school property. In response, Rep. Kremer issued the following statement:
“As co-author of Act 22, I fully support the restoration of a law-abiding citizen’s freedom to obtain a firearm upon clearance of a background check. Eliminating the burdensome two-day wait provides another option for those who may find themselves in harmful situations, such as victims of domestic violence. I’m pleased to have been a part of bringing this law to fruition and look forward to its implementation in Wisconsin.
I also laud the furtherance of responsible concealed carry in Wisconsin. Allowing off duty and retired police officers to lawfully conceal a weapon on school grounds is one more step toward securing a safe environment for students, personnel and visitors to our schools.”
