Rep. Kremer Applauds JFC Decision to Reject Changes to Long Term Care Options

Madison, WI – Today, the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance rejected Governor Walker’s proposed changes to IRIS and FamilyCare in the 2015-2017 state budget. The Committee’s proposal would grant limited authority to the Department of Health Services to negotiate changes to FamilyCare, require public input prior to any future changes and mandate an independent, actuarial study to set rates, among other requirements.

In response to the Committee’s action to preserve long term care options, Representative Jesse Kremer issued the following remarks:

“I am pleased that our Joint Finance Committee has listened to the concerns of our constituents and has decided to pull any non-vetted changes to IRIS and FamilyCare from the budget. Although there will be adjustments in the near future, it is imperative that we bring all ideas to the table – paying particular attention to ideas from those who utilize these programs and the experts who manage them. If streamlining these programs is the goal, wouldn’t the folks served by these programs be the best sources of expertise?”

Rep. Kremer represents the 59th Assembly District which includes Southern Calumet, Western Sheboygan, Northern Washington and Eastern Fond du Lac counties.
