Governor Walker Signs Christmas Tree Legislation into Law
Madison, WI – Today, Governor Walker signed AB 648 (2015 Wisconsin Act 333) into law, clarifying a provision in the state fire code that that caused confusion regarding natural Christmas Trees in places of assembly; including places of worship and the State Capitol building. Wisconsin adheres to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1 fire code. Section 10.13 of the code governs combustible vegetation, including live, natural cut Christmas Trees.
Rep. Kremer issued the following remarks:
“This new law will clarify for our local fire officials how the fire code is to be enforced. Local fire authorities will still be able to remove unsafe trees after measures to improve safety are not observed; however, the cherished tradition of having a natural cut Christmas Tree in a church will no longer be arbitrarily prohibited.”
