Working for you!

A River In Recovery Tour with Mike Gallagher

On Wednesday, I spent the day with a few of my colleagues on a River in Recovery bus tour hosted by U.S. Representative Mike Gallagher. I really valued seeing first-hand how federal funds are being applied in our community to promote clean water.

Lower Insurance Rates

Even our new governor is bragging about the positive impacts former Governor Scott Walker’s heath care initiatives are producing for Wisconsinites. 2020 rates for our state’s individual health insurance market will be 3.2 percent lower than the 2019 rates! Past reforms and ongoing initiatives adopted by the Republican legislature are making health care more accessible and affordable and that’s definitely something to be proud of, whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat.

Our New Supreme Court Justice

This week, Justice Brian Hagedorn was sworn in as our newest member of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Equifax Settlement

I encourage you to see if you were impacted by the 2017 Equifax data breach. Equifax has agreed to a legal settlement that includes up to $425 million to help people affected by the data breach. For more information about whether you’re eligible for a portion of the settlement funds, click here.

Your Questions and Concerns

Sara of Appleton and Tom of Hortonville asked about Rep. Jimmy Anderson seeking to call into meetings of the legislature.

As the chairperson of a committee that Rep. Anderson has served on, my staff and I made every effort to proactively ensure he had everything necessary to fully participate in meetings. That said, Rep. Anderson never requested the ability to call into one of our meetings and it’s my understanding that he did not make such a request to the Speaker of the Assembly before he approached the media about the issue. In fact, the Assembly rule in question is one that Rep. Anderson voted in favor of and had the opportunity to amend, which he did not take.

It’s possible that Rep. Anderson’s opinion or ability to participate in meetings may have changed; however, it's unfortunate when anyone uses a disadvantage to score political points and sew division. No one should be precluded from public service because of a disability. I support necessary accommodations for folks with a disability, but I don't support the unnecessarily divisive route Rep. Anderson took to get one.
