Working for you!

A Win for College Free Speech

Last Friday, a United States District Court ruled in favor of Northeast Wisconsin Technical College student Polly Olsen and upheld her right to distribute religious themed Valentine’s Day cards on campus. This important decision highlights just how much our public college leaders misunderstand the right, and value, of freedom of expression. Now, more than ever, it is important for us to stand up and defend free speech on college campuses. That’s why I’m proud to join Representative Cody Horlacher and Speaker Vos in reintroducing a bill to ensure these rights are preserved at our University of Wisconsin campuses.

The Right to Bear Arms

This week, Governor Evers and legislative Democrats announced their goal to implement potentially unconstitutional laws that would allow the state to take firearms from law abiding citizens. The oath I took to uphold the Constitution means a great deal to me, and I will never support a law that jeopardizes the right to bear arms or a law that sacrifices due process. There’s a great deal we have done and continue to do in order to promote public safety, such as ensuring safe schools with state grant funding and increasing access to mental health support systems. However, the type of gun control proposed by Democrats will do nothing but ensure criminals greater access to weapons of defense than law abiding citizens.

Gov. Heeds Our Advice, Restores New County Attorney Positions

This week the Governor announced that he would restore the four additional assistant district attorney positions the legislature allocated to Winnebago and Outagamie Counties, which he had vetoed in the bill in order to reallocate them elsewhere. Although I was disappointed to see other rural Wisconsin counties lose direly needed positions to Madison and Milwaukee, I’m glad he listened to our local legislators.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day

Today is National Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Recognition Day, the perfect day to recognize the work being done right here in Wisconsin to recover and identify missing in action service members by the University of Wisconsin Missing In Action (MIA) Recovery and Identification Project. I’m currently co-sponsoring a bill authored by Rep. Skowronski that would fund the project’s ability to focus on service members missing from Wisconsin.
