Talking Student-Athlete
Rights with Barry Alvarez |
On Tuesday, I had a very positive meeting
with UW–Madison Athletic Director Barry Alvarez at Camp Randall
regarding a bipartisan bill I have been working on Rep.
Shankland that would restore student athletes’ rights to license
their own name, image, or likeness.
I also had the opportunity to talk about
this issue on the WTAQ Morning News with Matt & Earl,
which you can listen to here.

Improving Adoption |
I recently had the opportunity to testify
with Senator Jacque on the Adoption Task Force bills that we
have been working on together. You can

package of bills by clicking on the image above.

UW-Madison Stronger
Than Ever |
In a report released this week by
UW–Madison, students are graduating in less than four years for
the first time in their recorded history. In the most recent
year, the average graduate time for a bachelor degree was just
3.96 years. UW–Madison is stronger than ever and using the
resources it gets from state taxpayers and student tuition very
effectively. Clearly the claim that our flagship institution has
been harmed by Republican budgets has been wrong.
You can read more about
this incredible achievement here.

Protecting the
University from Fraud and Abuse |
On Wednesday, Senator Cowles and I
testified in front of the Assembly Committee on Government
Accountability and Oversight regarding
our bill to protect the University of Wisconsin from
unnecessary risks associated with undocumented financial
relationships with outside organizations. Two recent
non-partisan audits of the university found that over a quarter
billion dollars has followed out toward organizations that are
supposed to support the university, and a large chuck of those
dollars spent were not tracked with vendor numbers.
Our bill ensures that chancellors and the
Board of Regents will have access to all the necessary
information to make sure that nothing illegal is occurring on
their watch.
You can
watch our testimony on the bill by clicking on the image
above.

Capitol Visitors |
Executive Director Sue Premo and Director
of Independent Living Services Sandy Popp of
Options for Independent Living
visited the Capitol on Wednesday to discuss a bill I am
supporting that will make an investment in Wisconsin’s
Independent Living Centers.
Folks from Gulfstream Aerospace popped in for a vist on
Wednesday as well. My work to improve the aerospace climate in
Wisconsin has helped Gulfstream add good paying jobs and expand
their facility in our community.
