Working for you!

More Foxconn Details

Each day brings more information about the positive impact Foxconn will have on our state and the legislation needed to secure their selection of a Wisconsin site. As I continue to scrutinize this project, I've made several recommendations to our legislative leaders to improve the deal that have been positively received. I'm working hard to ensure that every penny that goes into this proposal is well spent.

On Monday the Assembly Jobs and Economy Committee will meet to vote on the bill and an amendment to the bill. The amendment makes several improvements related to Foxconn employee salaries, environment protections, and Wisconsin workforce development. A summary of the amendment can be read by clicking here. You can read the full amendment online here.

The non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau has also released a memo with more details about the fiscal effects of the bill. You can read that memo by clicking here.

On Tuesday I gave an interview to ABC 2 about my thoughts on the Foxconn project. Watch the video by clicking on the photo below:

REINS Act Becomes Law

On Wednesday, the Governor signed a bill I cosponsored, making state government more accountable to our citizens. The REINS Act adds a legislative review to any rules (which are in administrative code instead of state statutes) that have an economic impact of $10 million or more over a two-year period. This law provides hardworking taxpayers with more ability to influence these rules before they go into effect. Our state rules are so extensive that it would take a person working 40 hours a week, 17 weeks just to read them all. This is a huge step forward in reforming Wisconsin’s government regulations.

Protecting Wisconsin Elections

Last week, the state Elections Commission announced that after mailing postcards to over 381,000 inactive voters, they are dropping 350,000 people from Wisconsin's voter rolls. Postcards to individuals that were undeliverable or did not receive a response resulted in those addresses being dropped from the rolls. This important process ensures that Wisconsin elections data is accurate and secure. Wisconsin citizens may register to vote in advance of elections or on the day of an election.
