Working for you!

Addressing Opioid Abuse

More tools will be added in the fight against the heroin and opioid epidemic. On Monday, I’ll be with Governor Walker in De Pere when he signs another package of bills to combat this serious problem in our state. These bills are from the special session this past year that came out of recommendations from the Governor's Task Force on Opioid Abuse. For more information on the legislation, visit HOPE.Wi.Gov

Transportation Reform

I’m co-authoring a bill drafted by Rep. Sanfelippo that introduces significant reforms to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT). These reforms will save millions of dollars, increase transparency over DOT operations and management, and restore taxpayer’s faith in this important agency.

The legislation:

  • Provides the DOT with new options for project delivery to increase competition and transparency. Projects will be completed in shorter periods of time and cost you less.

  •  Creates a scoring process that places emphasis on transparency and low project cost along with an incentive program to utilize Wisconsin-based contractors.

  •  Creates reporting requirements for the department so the legislature can measure the effectiveness of these reforms.

  •  Requires a new funding formula for regions based on need rather than baseline funding.

  •  Requires local approval of roundabouts

  •  Repeals the prevailing wage

  •  Requires a referendum for a local wheel tax

  •  Initiates a full audit of the DOT

Legislature Gets a New Home(page)

The Wisconsin State Legislature has an improved website. It’s now easier to use and more mobile friendly. A “Today in the Legislature” page has been added so you can better follow the Assembly and Senate. There’s also a new section focused on administrative rules to allow for more public input in the state agency rule development process. Check it out: legis.wi.gov
