Working for you!

Supporting Local Health

Local health departments across Wisconsin are responsible for tracking and preventing over seventy diseases like whooping cough, Hepatitis C, and tuberculosis. The state places nearly two dozen mandates on these local offices without any state support. That’s why I’m supporting Assembly Bill 293, which would create a responsible fund to provide for this life saving work.

On Monday I had the opportunity to meet with the Appleton Health Department Director Kurt Eggebrecht and his great staff to discussed AB 293.

There's Still Time to Share Your Voice on the State Budget

I'm so grateful that hundreds of people have already shared their opinions on the state budget at my listening sessions and through the spring survey. There's still time to add your voice if you haven't yet. Click on the image below to take the survey now:

My budget listening session schedule was included in my 2017 Spring Survey, and was sent to area and statewide media, such as the Post Crescent and the Winneconne News, over the last few weeks.

Paving a Path into the Workforce

Yesterday I was extremely pleased to see the Joint Finance Committee vote to increase Wisconsin Grant funding for technical college students by $5 million. Wisconsin Grants are need based scholarships that help low-income students get the training they need to enter the workforce. The Joint Finance Committee also approved a motion I recommended that removes the technical colleges tuition freeze initially proposed in the budget bill.

This February I had the pleasure of hearing about the amazing progress students and staff at Wisconsin's technical colleges are making, including folks from Fox Valley Technical College.
