Giving People HOPE |
A common theme of the legislation we have been working on lately
is about giving people hope. Whether it's passing "Right to
Try" legislation (gives terminally ill patients hope by allowing
them to try investigational drugs) and CBD Oil legislation
(gives families access to CBD oil to treat seizure disorders)
through the Assembly this week, or hearing bills in the Assembly
Committee on Health to combat the heroin and opioid epidemic in
the state, we are working to give people in difficult situations
hope and resources they can use. The fight against heroin and
opioid abuse has been led by Rep. Nygren and the HOPE Agenda*.
To further his efforts, the legislature entered special session (a
session of the Legislature convened by the Governor to
accomplish a special purpose) specifically to pass legislation to
address recommendations from the
Governor's Task Force on Opioid Abuse.
This week, the Assembly Committee on Health had a public
hearing on several bills aimed at fighting against heroin and opioid abuse in Wisconsin.

Meet The Newest Addition to
Team Murphy! |
I have a great staff and interns
who are part of my team to serve you. I asked my newest intern, Sam
Schwab, to
write about himself so you can get to know the different members
of Team Murphy and the people that you interact with when you
contact my office. If you know anyone who is interested in
interning at the State Capitol, please let me know. It is a
great learning experience!
SAM SCHWAB: I
am from New Berlin, Wisconsin which is just south of Milwaukee.
In June of 2016, I graduated cum laude from New Berlin
Eisenhower High School where I was active in National Honor
Society, various athletics, and musical theater. I now attend
the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and I am pursuing degrees
in Political Science and Theater. In my time at Madison, I have been active in the Alpha Iota chapter of Chi Psi as
well as a organizations like She’s the First and
the Alexander Hamilton Society. At the beginning of my second
semester, I was fortunate enough to meet Rep. Murphy’s
legislative assistant David and learn about interning. David and
Diane (Rep. Murphy's staff) have been extremely helpful showing me the ins and outs of working in a public office. I
learn something new every day working in the Capitol, and I am
proud to work for Rep. Murphy, whom I have come to know as a
great listener and leader.
