Today, the Assembly passed legislation to approve the Bucks
arena on a bi-partisan 52-34 vote. I voted against it.
I voiced my concerns about this deal and I tried to work with my
colleagues to make changes that I thought would
better protect the taxpayers. The legislation will now go to
Governor Walker to be signed into law.
I also want to thank everyone who contacted me to share their
opinion on the arena.
Please see my statement on my vote below:
Rep. Murphy Votes Against
the Bucks Deal
(Madison)...Representative Dave Murphy (R-Greenville)
released the following the statement after voting against the
Milwaukee Bucks arena deal today:
"I am disappointed with the outcome of the vote today. I cannot in good conscience put taxpayers on the hook for an
arena in Milwaukee that the state shouldn't be involved with in
the first place.
"The state should not be in the business of giving taxpayers
money to millionaire basketball players and billionaire team
owners.
"I am disappointed that the City of Milwaukee has not shown
leadership. Instead, they expected the state to lead in crafting
a deal and for taxpayers from outside the city to contribute
money. Why should citizens in the Fox Valley, who pay for their
own projects, have to pitch in for Milwaukee's?
"I am concerned with the precedent that Wisconsin set today
and that the state is agreeing to be involved in the arena
business for years to come."
