Oshkosh Hearing on
Campus Free Speech Dec. 12 |
Next Thursday, the Assembly Committee on
Colleges and Universities, which I chair, will be traveling to
UW–Oshkosh for a public hearing on two bills. One of the bills,
AB444, is an extremely important piece of legislation that
will preserve freedom of expression on our UW campuses across
the state.
Please consider attending the public
hearing, and offering your comments on the legislation to the
committee:
Thursday, December 12, 2019 10:00 AM
Room 140 BC, UW–Oshkosh 625 Pearl Avenue Oshkosh WI
54901
If you can’t make it to the hearing in
person, please consider submitting written testimony, which we
will distribute to the committee members, by emailing
rep.murphy@legis.wi.gov.

A Win for UW Transparency
and Accountability |
This week, my colleagues on the Assembly
Committee on Government Accountability and Oversight recommend
adoption of my bill,
AB370, relating to providing University of Wisconsin
administrators, the Board of Regents, and the public with the
necessary information and tools to ensure the financial
relationships the university enters into with certain outside
organizations are being appropriately approved and managed. The
bill was drafted based on recommendations offered in two reports
issued by the non-partisan Legislative Audit Bureau.

Pearl Harbor Rememberance
Day |
This year marks the 78th anniversary of the
attack on Pearl Harbor. Wisconsin may be more than 4,000 miles
from Honolulu, but several residents of our state were on hand
December 7, 1941, when Japanese airplanes attacked. You can read
their firsthand accounts by visiting the Wisconsin Historical
Society webpage here:

Get Out and Volunteer |
On Black Friday, my wife Lynn and I spent
the day stocking shelves at the local food pantry. Lynn and I
really enjoy volunteering year-round in our area. Any time of
year a great time to volunteer for your community. I hope you'll
consider volunteering in our community when you can.

Welcome!
I live in Greenville, but have an
office at the State Capitol in Madison. If you are in
downtown Madison, please feel free to stop by and say
hello! Just go to the information desk in the rotunda,
and they can direct you on how to find my office, 318
North. At the bottom of each e-update, you'll see my
office contact information.
If your school or group plans to tour the Capitol
building, please let me know in advance. I'd
love to visit with you for a few minutes and take a
group photo.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.
