Final newsletter for a
while.... |
The 2013-14 legislative session has ended. Campaign laws (State
Statute 11.33) prohibit elected officials running for
re-election or seeking another office from distributing 50 or
more pieces of identical material starting April 15th. This will
be my last e-update until the end of the year. I appreciate your
taking the time to read the update, and I thank you for your
input and questions on the issues. My office is still open, so
feel free to contact me with thoughts, opinions and to request
assistance with state matters. |
Murphy Legislation |
SB 348 (now
2013 Act 185): I was glad to see Governor Walker sign SB 348
this month at the Gulfstream facility in
Appleton. This Act exempts the sale of aircraft parts and the
repair and maintenance of aircraft from the
sales and use tax. There have been discussions about expansions
at the Outagamie County Airport and Act 185 makes us more
competitive with surrounding states so that we can create and
maintain more jobs in our area. Even our Fox Valley Technical
College aviation students who are training today will have the
skills to fill these types of positions in the future.

Tour of Heritage Animal
Hospital in Greenville |
Earlier this month, I got to tour the Heritage
Animal Hospital with Dr. Dan Oberschlake. Thanks so much for
showing me your terrific practice! Dr. Oberschlake has done
extensive renovation and remodeling of the veterinary facility.
I'd like to thank him and his staff for taking good care of our
dog, Sabrina, for over a decade! Lynn and I are so grateful.

Workforce Development
Resources |
I was saddened to hear about the impending closing of Cenveo
envelopes in Appleton and the layoffs at Oshkosh truck. As soon
as I read the news, I called the
Department of Workforce
Development (DWD) and Cenveo to offer assistance. DWD
does a great deal to help employees transition to other jobs or
training.
Although Wisconsin employment is growing in general, when the
federal government cuts defense spending, companies with
contracts like Oshkosh Corp., face layoffs for their employees.
I'm hoping these employees, too, find good work and/or training.
As a member of the dislocated workers subcommittee of the
Governor's Council on Workforce
Investment, I continually work with the other members of our
committee to develop rapid responses to these types of layoffs,
and I will continue to do what I can to get people back into
good employment situations. |
