Rohrkaste Named WAND Legislator of the Year
Madison, WI – State Representative Mike Rohrkaste (R-Neenah) was named the 2016 Legislator of the Year by the Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (WAND). Throughout this session, Rep. Rohrkaste worked with WAND to develop a statewide Dietetic Internship Program in Wisconsin’s Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. On Friday, Rep. Rohrkaste was presented with a plaque by Colleen Kristbaum, President of WAND, at the annual WAND Conference in Wisconsin Dells.
"The Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics owe Rep. Mike Rohrkaste a large debt of gratitude for his work on key nutrition policy, including the WIC Dietetic Internship Bill," said Colleen Kristbaum. "His efforts will help strengthen Wisconsin's health care workforce and promote the role of good nutrition in preventing chronic disease. He is more than worthy of WAND's Legislator of the Year Award recognition."
The WIC Dietetic Internship Program, now known as Act 276, was passed unanimously in both the Senate and Assembly. The legislation was signed into law by Governor Walker in late March.
“WAND is an outstanding organization and I am honored to have been recognized by them,” said Rohrkaste. “Together we worked to craft good legislation which will benefit thousands of Wisconsinites through an increase in the quality and quantity of nutrition care services. I would once again like to thank WAND for this honor and look forward to working with them in the future.”
