Fox Valley Assembly Republicans Roll Out “Red Tape Review” Initiative
Appleton – Fox Valley Assembly Republicans rolled out the Red Tape Review initiative today at the Fox Valley Technical College. The Red Tape Review is an Assembly Republican effort, led by Representative Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan), that aims to eliminate burdensome and outdated regulations from Wisconsin’s Administrative Code.
Several representatives from the area participated, including Representatives Dave Murphy (R-Greenville), Mike Rohrkaste (R-Neenah), André Jacque (R-De Pere), Gary Tauchen (R-Bonduel), John Macco (R-De Pere), and Michael Schraa (R-Oshkosh).
“This is a great example of legislators coming together with constituents to correct problems in our state. As we saw today, some of these rules can have a negative impact on citizens and that is why we must get rid of them,” said Rep. Rohrkaste.
The Red Tape Review is a continuation of the successful Right the Rules effort from last session. Legislators combed through 20% of the Administrative Code, and eliminated 76 pages of rules that burdened citizens and businesses. Over the past two years, 353 chapters were reviewed and 83 were either modified or repealed (partially or entirely). There are a total of 1,768 chapters in Wisconsin’s Administrative Code.
This week a press conference will be held at the State Capitol and more roundtable sessions are scheduled around the state in Pewaukee, Rothschild, and Altoona. Legislators from those areas will come together at each session to hear from their constituents. The goal of the state tour is to provide citizens with a platform to discuss their experiences with government rules that may be out-of-date or in need of change.
“It is crucial that citizens and businesses provide their feedback for this effort to be successful. The more we can hear directly from our constituents about their experiences, the more we can ensure that the existing rules serve a valid purpose without obstructing our citizens and business growth,” Rep. Murphy stated.
Citizens and businesses are encouraged to submit their feedback and comments by following the process outlined on the Red Tape Review Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/RedTapeReviewWI) and on Twitter (www.Twitter.com/RedTapeReviewWI).
