Wisconsin's Financial Outlook Continues to Improve!
Moody's Investors Service upgraded the State of Wisconsin's General
Obligation for the first time since 1973 to Aa1, up from Aa2. Because of the
improved rating, Wisconsin is expected to realized savings from a reduction
in its capital costs/interest rates on borrowing.
This is great
news for the entire state and helps to show that Wisconsin continues to be
headed in the right direction. Because of prudent fiscal management and
continued growth, Wisconsin is in a great position moving forward and this
upgrade reflects that positive trend. I am proud of the work we continue to
do in Wisconsin as our unemployment rate is near a record low, workforce
participation continues to increase, and the state remains financially

As I mentioned
in last week's e-update, a public hearing was held last Thursday in the Assembly Committee on Jobs and the
Economy on the proposed Foxconn legislation. Committee members received
information from officials at the Departments of
Administration, Revenue, Transportation, Natural Resources, and Workforce
Development regarding the legislation. Also in attendance were
administrators from the UW System, Marquette University, and the Technical
College System with information about the impact of this legislation on high
education in Wisconsin. The committee also heard testimony from members of
the public. With all of this testimony in mind, Assembly Republicans have
been working diligently to make sure this legislation is the best deal for
Wisconsin. As of today, the bill will continue through the legislative
process as the Assembly Committee on Jobs and the Economy has scheduled an
executive session next Monday to vote on approval. If approved, the bill
will head to the Assembly floor for a vote by all members, this could happen
as soon as late next week.
As this legislation continues through the legislative process I will be sure
to keep you up-to-date on the developments. If you have any specific
questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to my office.
This week, I
was able to attend the Fox Cities Senior Games at Pierce Park in Appleton.
It was a fun event and was well-attended by residents of the Fox Cities. The
event is put on yearly by the Fox Cities YMCA and is also sponsored by
Network Health. It is a fun way for seniors to get out and connect with
friends, meet new friends, and be active. There were games, workshops,
prizes, and awards with entertainment provided by the Unity Dance Academy
dancers and acrobats. I look forward to attending the event next year and
would like to thank everyone who took the time to make this event possible.
Additionally, I always enjoy
meeting with constituents to discuss issues important to them. If you have
any questions or concerns about state government, please don't hesitate to
contact my office. If you would like to meet with me in-district or in
Madison, my staff at the Capitol would be more than happy to help you find a
time and location to do so.
Have a great
