A Note from Rep. Rohrkaste

Hi, Mike Rohrkaste here with this week’s video e-update. It’s been busy lately in Madison and I’d like to fill you in on what has been going on.

This week, the Joint Committee on Finance heard testimony from various state agencies regarding the governor’s 2017-19 biennial budget proposal. As a member of Joint Finance, I was able to ask questions of department secretaries and their staff regarding the proposed budget. There are many issues to consider, including transportation funding and road quality, K-12 and UW system resources to educate our children, and how we address Wisconsin’s workforce shortage, particularly in areas like healthcare.

Next week, the Joint Committee on Finance will be out on the road. We will hold six public hearings across the state, asking constituents for input on the Governor’s budget proposal. The public hearings nearest to the 55th Assembly District will be held in Berlin next Friday, April 7th, and in Marinette on Friday, April 21st. The hearings will start at 10 AM and go to 5pm or later each day. All members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend. If you are unable to attend, the public hearings will be viewable on Wisconsin Eye on the State Legislature’s website.

In late April, I will be holding additional in-district listening sessions on my own to hear directly from you. When we have final times and locations, I will send out another e-update with the details. I would encourage any constituents who are able to attend these listening sessions.

As always, thank you for listening and please don’t hesitate to contact my office in the future with any questions or concerns.
