A Message from Rep. Rohrkaste

Hi, Mike Rohrkaste here with my first e-update of the New Year. As always these updates will be available in my e-mail e-updates and on my website. The New Year has started quickly here in Madison and we have already had a session day.

This week, four bills passed the state Assembly which are part of the Heroin, Opiate Prevention and Education Agenda or the HOPE Agenda. I am proud to have been a co-sponsor and supporter of these bills. The opiate epidemic is having an incredibly negative impact on communities all throughout Wisconsin and these bills aim to help prevent addiction. We are also working on a number of bills that will help people to better afford a college education in our two and four year colleges.

Speaking of education, it was a privilege to spend a morning at Shattuck Middle School in Neenah this week. I was able to discuss government issues with eighth grade students and see the great work our local teachers are doing in educating our kids.

Next, the Speaker’s Task Force on Alzheimer’s and dementia will be proposing a legislative package in the near future that will help those living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia, and provide support to those who care for them. As the chair of the task force, I have been happy with the bipartisan effort and look forward to releasing these pieces of legislation along with the other members of the task force. I will be sure to keep you up to date on how these bills progress.

Last, to continue a practice of being available to meet with people in the district, I will be at Timshel in Neenah this Monday January 18 from 7:30 - 8:30 AM.

Once again, thank you for watching and have a great Wisconsin weekend.
