 Dementia Care Specialist Funding Approved

Yesterday, the Joint Committee on Finance approved my request to fully fund and expand Wisconsin's Dementia Care Specialist Program. The funding pays for 19 Dementia Care Specialists in 2017-18 and expands the program to 24 Specialists in 2018-19.

The Dementia Care Specialists program was created as a way to support families and individuals living with Dementia. These specialists work in homes and around the community to keep people living with dementia out of institutional care. This way, they can stay engaged in their communities and at home with their families for as long as possible. I want to thank the Joint Committee on Finance for their swift and deliberate decision to support and expand this program. The demand for these services only continues to grow and the added specialists will go a long way towards filling this need.

Additionally, the committee approved  two other requests that I submitted. The first allocates an additional $25 million to Disproportionate Share Hospitals, which are hospitals that serve a disproportionate number of Medicaid patients. The second motion gives $1 million to local health departments to prevent and control the spread of infectious disease.

Shullsburg FFA Visit

The Shullsburg FFA Chapter visited my office this week to present their annual agriculture issues project. This year's project discussed the impact of immigrant labor on Wisconsin's dairy industry. The students exceeded our expectations and I wish them the best of luck at their upcoming competition. Thank you for visiting!

School District Visits

My school district visits continued this week with visits to Monroe and Dodgeville on Monday and Tuesday, and visits to Ithaca and Highland today. We continue to have great conversations at each stop and I look forward to working on ways we can help our public schools continue to perform at their best. Thank you all for having me.
