Update to Populous County Threshold Signed

On Tuesday, Governor Walker signed my bill that ensures that laws enacted for Milwaukee County do not affect Dane County. Projections for the 2020 federal census show that the population of Dane County is expected to exceed 500,000. This bill increases the threshold for "populous counties" from 500,000 to 750,000 so these 246 statutory provisions do not affect Dane County.

Foster Forward Package Becomes Law

On Wednesday, Governor Walker signed the Foster Forward package of bills into law.

Among the bills signed into law was a bill that allows a treatment record of a foster child, including mental health treatment, to be released to an out of home care provider and a child welfare agency if the provider believes it is necessary for the proper care of the child. The package also included legislation that creates a new $400,000 grant program to be administered by DCF for the purpose of supporting foster parents and providing normalcy for children placed in out-of-home care.

Being on the Assembly Speaker’s Task Force on Foster Care was one of the biggest highlights of this legislative session and I am thrilled with the package of bills that passed with overwhelming bipartisan support. I can say with confidence that these new laws will have a positive, lasting effect on Wisconsin's Foster Care System.
