Special Session on School Safety

On Thursday, the Assembly passed a bill I authored in a Special Session called by Governor Walker. This bill is part of a legislative package that we are putting together to help improve school safety in the wake of recent tragedies. The bill I authored would create a $100 million grant program to help our schools improve safety. The funds are allocated and administered by the newly created Office of School Safety in the Department of Justice. This funding could be used to help our schools provide solutions to this safety issue that might not otherwise be possible within their current budgets. Some uses that we have recommended for this funding are security upgrades to school buildings, and possible training opportunities for faculty. Our students and faculty deserve to feel safe in our schools.

2017 Wisconsin Geological Survey

UW Extension has released the 2017 Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey. In 2017, UW Extension staff worked in 69 Wisconsin counties and mapped geology, inventoried springs, and created groundwater models. This survey does excellent work and speaks to the importance of our UW Extension. Click here to view the 2017 annual Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey Report.
