In the Capitol, I pursue a positive, progressive agenda that will move Wisconsin forward.

Access to Quality Health Care for All Wisconsinites

Health care is a human right and must be treated as such. While the Affordable Care Act has expanded access to health care for millions of Americans, we must continue the fight for access to healthcare here at home. I have championed the effort to accepted federal Badger Care Expansion, and authored legislation to create a state-based health care exchange which we can tailor to our local needs. Until every person has access to health care, we still have work to do.

Decriminalizing Marijuana

The 4th Amendment guarantees us our right to privacy which is why I introduced a bill to fully legalize marijuana in Wisconsin. The most dangerous thing about marijuana is that it is illegal. I know that this legislation would benefit Wisconsin and its citizens in many ways such as addressing racial disparities in arrests; time and cost savings to law enforcement; providing medical benefits; and adding revenue to the state.

Jobs for Working Families

Workers across our state have waited long enough for meaningful job creation. As a small business owner, I know that Wisconsinites are ready, willing, and able to work. We must focus on true economic development that creates family-sustaining jobs that pay a livable wage and help grow the middle class.

LGBT+ Equality

No one should be denied the rights and privileges that others are afforded. We can’t have a truly equal society until we all have the ability to live, work, and play safely in our communities. The fight for LGBT+ equality is just beginning, and we all need to work together to see it through.

Protecting Our Environment

Our outdoor heritage is one of the things that make our state such a special place to leave. Clean air and water provide us with the freedom to enjoy Wisconsin’s green spaces. It is important that we protect our natural resources not only for ourselves but for future generations so that they can hunt, fish and enjoy our lands, too. I will continue to stand up to those who have assaulted our environment.

Protecting Your Right to Privacy

I have authored and successfully passed legislation regarding personal and digital privacy. The first bill prevented employers from accessing your social media passwords, and the second bill stopped law enforcement from tracking your cell phone location without first obtaining a warrant. These bills are crucial first steps toward proactively ensuring that our laws keep up with the rapid pace of technology.

Supporting our Schools and Children

Education is the bedrock of our state’s economy and creates opportunity for all. I visited every public school in the 48th Assembly District in the past year, and I met amazing students, educators, parents and administrators. We know that every child deserves access to an education that will provide them with the tools they need to be successful. This session, I introduced legislation to make college more affordable and make our students safer.

Redistricting Reform

I was proud to be one of the Democratic Assembly members who called for redistricting reform last session. The bill we introduced would create a nonpartisan commission to draw new legislative and congressional lines after each census. Reforming our redistricting process is crucial to healing the political divide and moving our state forward.

Reducing Gun Violence

I am a strong advocate for common sense legislation to address gun violence in our communities. While I support the 2nd Amendment, the epidemic of violence in Wisconsin is unacceptable and we must take steps to end it. I was proud to champion a bill that required background checks for all gun purchases in Wisconsin.
