February 13, 2019

I’m State Representative Joan Ballweg.

Almost 115,000 people in the U.S. are currently on the waiting list for an organ transplant, and 20 people die each day waiting for a lifesaving organ.

February 14th is National Donor Day, a day to recognize our loved ones who have given or received a donation, those who are currently waiting and remember those who sadly did not receive an organ in time.

Each year, I continue to try and bring attention to the importance of organ and tissue donation by authoring a resolution to recognize April as Donate Life Month in Wisconsin. I have also sponsored legislation that created the organ donation check-off on our driver’s license renewal forms, as well as legislation to create the Donate Life license plate which I proudly display on my own vehicle.

The more awareness we can raise about the importance of organ, blood and bone marrow donation, the more lives we can save.

This is especially important following the frigid weather. The American Red Cross recently issued an emergency call for blood and platelet donations. To make an appointment visit the American Red Cross website.

Thanks for watching, and have a great Wisconsin week!

American Legion State Oratorical Contest Finals

I had the opportunity to help judge the finals competition for the American Legion State Oratorical Contest. Participants prepare and recite speeches relating to the constitution while developing leadership skills and the ability to think and speak clearly.

Finalists are awarded scholarships of up to $18,000 and can advance to the national competition in Indianapolis, IN.

Congratulations to all who participated!

511 Wisconsin

With the recent winter weather, make sure to check road conditions before heading out for the day. 511 Wisconsin offers 24/7/365 live coverage of traffic accidents, road conditions, construction, lane closures and more.

If you visit the 511 Wisconsin website you can view up-to-date travel times and live pictures from the over 400 highway cameras statewide. Also, make sure to fully scrape off your car and turn your headlights on when driving in the snow!

BallwegSchoarshipLogo_15th.jpgApplication materials for this year's Joan Ballweg Leadership Scholarship are available on my website and local high school guidance counselor offices. I look forward to reading about all of the talented seniors in the 41st Assembly District!
