Hello, I’m State Representative Joan Ballweg.

You may not have believed it until this past week, but we are well into winter here in Wisconsin.

With the arrival of some much needed snow, I wanted to share with you some fun winter activities for you and your family.

Wisconsin is home to over 25,000 miles of snowmobile trails, around 15,000 lakes for ice fishing, countless trails and parks for cross country and downhill skiing and snowshoeing.

The 41st Assembly District is home to many snowmobile clubs like the Markesan Sno-Drifters who will be celebrating their 50th Annual SnoBall! This is a club my husband and I have been members of for nearly 40 years.

To get up-to-date information on trail conditions before your next winter adventure, visit Travel Wisconsin’s Wisconsin Snow Report with updated information on trail conditions, park hours and closures.

Thanks for watching, and have a great Wisconsin week!

National Wear Red Day

 012919 American Heart Association.jpg

Every year, we kick off American Heart Month with National Wear Red Day to raise awareness for cardiovascular disease and stroke. Heart Disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in America, yet 80% of cardiac events can be prevented by diet and lifestyle choices.

Some recommendations to lower your risk of heart disease include:

  • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke
  • Control your cholesterol and blood pressure
  • Get active and eat healthy

Frigid Weather Precautions

weather-thermometer-clip-art-RTG6dkb8c.pngEarlier this week, Governor Evers declared a state of emergency in response to the dangerous winter weather. With temperatures that reached well below zero in past days, make sure to limit your time outside, dress in layers and check in with friends and family members. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has a good list of safety tips for surviving the cold temperatures.

Groundhog Day is February 2nd, let's all hope it sees its shadow and Spring comes early this year!
