Highway 82 Bridge Construction
Recently, construction began on a new bridge over the Wisconsin River on Highway 82. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation hired Lunda Construction of Black River Falls to construct the $19 million bridge.
Brenda Schoenfeld, the DOT project supervisor, said she was unsure of the age of the current bridge linking Adams and Juneau counties. However, the department determined it was more cost effective to replace the bridge.
The new bridge is to be completed in October of 2019. Schoenfeld said during that time Highway 82 will remain open, but workers will direct traffic across the bridge. One lane of traffic will be switched to the new bridge during the summer of 2019.
At the same time as the bridge work, County Highway Z which intersects Highway 82 at the bridge on the Adams County side will be realigned. During that work, tentatively scheduled for April and May of this year, County Z will be closed to traffic from Highway 82 to Fern Avenue. However, traffic can use County Z to reach Point Bluff Resort, which is at the corner of Highway 82 and Z.
For the latest updates on the bridge project check the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's 511 website.
