Video Update from the Capitol

Manufacturing is a strength of Wisconsin, and during manufacturing month, I’ve heard over and over about the shortage of workers.

The shop floor is no longer dark and dirty as computers and advanced technology are now the norm. These busineses utilize state apprenticeship programs to train young people, and they are always looking for more individuals interested in these highly skilled and well paid careers.

In our 2017-2019 budget, I was successful in attaining additional funding for the high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) Grants. These grants provide public school districts with as much as $1,000 for each high school student who, in addition to receiving their high school diploma, graduates with an industry-recognized certification.

Apprenticeship programs and industry certifications provide opportunities for our high school youth to define their future career path and build a strong workforce for our manufacturers.

Thanks for watching, and have a great Wisconsin week!

Constituent Visits

Thank you to Lake Delton and Neenah Creek Elementary Schools for visiting the Capitol this week. I had a great time showing you around the Assembly Chambers and explaining how the Assembly works.

In addition, I offer presentations to 4th grade classes that includes a fun trivia game to engage students, some Wisconsin history, and a role play game on “How a Bill Becomes a Law”. To set up a tour or presentation, contact my office by email, or phone at 608.266.8077.

I also had the opportunity to talk to Joy Boeck (Berlin), Charles Lang (Wautoma), and Shane Dalton (Oshkosh) from Alliance Laundry Systems this week as part of their United Steelworkers legislative conference. Thank you for visiting!

Local Business Spotlight: Rowley Tool & Die

Rowley Tool & Die's plant manager, Patrick Kroening, showed me what they are currently doing for our major manufacturers like Alliance Laundry Systems, Harley Davidson, and more.

For over 70 years, Rowley Tools has been developing creative solutions for manufacturers using wire electrical discharge machining, CNC machines, 400 ton presses, and CAD designing.

Rowley Tools was recently purchased from it's Green Lake Owner, Byron Hill, who works as a consultant. They were purchased by Green Bay's Alwin Manufacturing with a plan for growth and expansion. This company is now able to bring back outsourced projects they did not have the capacity to handle.

Mr. Kroening indicated they are looking for additional employees, and he is reaching out to area high schools to partner with for apprenticeship opportunities.

Thank you for sharing your story and good luck as you grow in Green Lake and Wisconsin!
