Video Update from the Capitol

The Assembly will be continuing our work on the Red Tape Review again this session. Red Tape Review is the Assembly majority effort to eliminate burdensome and outdated regulations from the administrative code. Over the past two legislative sessions, 27 percent of the code has been reviewed. We look forward to making more meaningful progress on this project over the next two years.
Red Tape Review is the perfect opportunity for citizens and business leaders to provide feedback about your experiences with government rules and regulations. Check back for more information on how to share your stories, and help us in Wisconsin cut more red tape for you.

Thanks for watching, have a great Wisconsin week.

DOT Audit

This week, the Legislative Audit Bureau released the following audit of the Department of Transportation.

The audit released the following report highlights:

  • The condition of Wisconsin's state highways deteriorated in recent years.
  • DOT budgeted to complete more major highway project work than could be completed with its available funding because if did not sufficiently take into account the effects of inflation and unexpected cost increases.
  • DOT took steps to control its state highway engineering, construction, and maintenance costs, but it could take additional steps.
  • DOT is not consistently using its performance measures to manage and improve its operations.

DOT Secretary Dave Ross released this statement, stating the audit gives DOT a roadmap for improvement. Assembly GOP leadership sent a letter to the secretary today and released this statement, asking for a new estimates for DOT projects.

I have faith the DOT will take into account what they've learned through the audit and continue to work towards a fix. I continue to be encouraged by the leadership of Assembly majority. This audit proves we need to have all options on the table when working to find a lasting solution for our transportation funding.
