Last week the Wisconsin Supreme Court came out with a decision on legislative maps that Republicans believe to be a violation of the US Constitution based on race. Both state and federal lawmakers have filed their own suits with the US Supreme Court.
While Wisconsin waits for a decision, you can read about the filing on WisPolitics.
The rights of rape victims took a giant step forward this week in Wisconsin, thanks to the State Senate's passage of the amended bill. Now, it's on to the Governor's desk!
ECONOMICS
WHAT RISES IN INFLATION MEANS FOR WISCONSIN
With inflationary pressures already affecting everyday Americans back in early summer 2021, the skyrocketing prices of fuel exacerbated by the Ukraine crisis are a heavy concern for many constituents. As I have stated before and will continue to state, our leaders need to increase domestic oil and gas production to reinstate America's energy independence. This would not only support our citizens but people around the world as we could once again become a net exporter of energy.
Energy independence is NOT buying our oil from Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and Iran! If we do not couple banning Russian oil imports with improving the domestic regulatory climate and restoring domestic production to what it was under the previous administration, it will only increase the price of fuel worldwide. And for the green energy crowd, please educate yourselves on where the largest mines are located for the precious metals and rare earth required for the production of "green" batteries. Electric vehicles, wind, and solar are NOT an immediate solution to this current crisis.
BIPARTISANSHIP
TRAILS CAUCUS
We had a good meeting of the bipartisan, bicameral Legislative trails caucus Wednesday with testimony from the Wisconsin ATV/UTV Assn, the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation Central Cross Country Skiing, the Northern Kettle Moraine Nordic Ski Club, and the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs.
CONDOLENCES
FORMER LT. GOV MARGARET FARROW
Former Lt. Governor Margaret Farrow was an inspiration to Rep. Dittrich as a young professional woman. How appropriate that she should waltz into heaven with her classic sass and gracious goodness on International Women's Day.
Please keep our Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow and his entire family in your prayers. Our state is richer because of Margaret's strong leadership.
CONSTITUENT CORNER
EAGLE SCOUTS
Congratulations to the 38th Assembly District's latest Eagle Scouts, Hayden and Klaus!
These young men represent our emerging leadership with their hours of service and growing character. It was an honor to celebrate them with their loved ones.
SCHOOL VISITS: PARK LAWN AND CAMBRIDGE ELEMENTARY
What a joy greeting all of the kids, teachers, and parents who came to visit the Capitol from Park Lawn Elementary School (Oconomowoc) and Cambridge Elementary! Rep. Dittrich always loves seeing our young learners.
DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME
FALL BACK, SPRING AHEAD
We may lose an hour of sleep, but that only moves us 60 minutes closer to SPRING! Don't forget to change your clocks before bedtime on Saturday, and check those smoke/carbon monoxide detector batteries while you're at it too.
