Request an Unemployment Claim Inquiry

With the high number of unemployment claims being made, many people have been experiencing delays or issues in getting a final answer or approval from the Department of Workforce Development (DWD). As a legislator, I'm able to reach out to DWD to make an inquiry on your behalf if you are experiencing issues or delays with your unemployment claim.

To help simplify the process for you, if you would like me to make an inquiry on your behalf with DWD, please fill out this form on my website. Once I've received your request, DWD has informed me that it's taking an average of two weeks to provide an answer or resolution on most inquiries. However, I'm hopeful that the timeline should decrease as they increase staffing and expand hours.

Wisconsin Free Fishing Weekend

FreeFishing2020(Twitter).jpg

This weekend is Wisconsin's Free Fishing Weekend. On June 6th and 7th, all waters of the state will be open to free fishing, although usual fishing regulations still apply. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and social distancing recommendations, the DNR is not holding in-person fishing clinics or other popular events during the weekend.

Free Fishing Weekends are always held the third full weekend in January and the first full weekend in June. This is a great opportunity to get outdoors, enjoy the fresh air, and maybe catch yourself a lunch or dinner!

State Campgrounds Reopening on June 10

Just in time for summer, the DNR has announced that Wisconsin State Campgrounds will reopen on Wednesday, June 10 with special conditions to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. While park offices will remain closed to the public, new changes to campgrounds include touchless check-in and new signs sharing information on best practices for visitors.

With the weather getting warmer finally, it's a great time to enjoy the great outdoors. State campground reservations can be made online or by phone (1-888-947-2757) only, and check-in is no longer necessary at the office or visitor station when coming to a property. Same day camping reservations are also available by phone (1-888-947-2757) or onlineOnce you have your reservation, proceed directly to your campsite and setup, and property staff will visit sites to monitor occupancy. For more information, check out the DNR's website

To help you plan your summer outings, remember that Travel Wisconsin has a number of free publications available upon request, including State Travel Guides, State Highway Maps, Biking Guides, State Park System Guides, and Campground Directories to name a few. To see what guides are available, view digital versions, or request your own copies, visit Travel Wisconsin's webpage.

Map of Current Local COVID-19 Health Orders

Local Health Orders Map.JPG

While the Safer at Home Order is no longer in effect, it doesn't mean that COVID-19 cases are no longer present in our communities. After the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down Secretary Palm's extension of the Safer at Home Order, a number of local governments chose to enact their own local orders related to COVID-19. If you are trying to figure out if there are any local COVID-19 health orders in effect in your area, Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) created a helpful map of all current local health orders, which includes duration and specifics on the local orders.
