Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the opening ceremony of Howard Young Medical Center’s new Tick-Borne Illness Center of Excellence located in Woodruff. The Center was created as a joint effort between the Howard Young Foundation and the Open Medicine Institute and will be the premier institute in the Midwest for researching, identifying and treating tick-borne illnesses. Tick-borne illnesses, like Lyme disease, can affect anyone and are notoriously difficult to diagnosis. It was great to meet some of the people involved in establishing this Center, and I firmly believe that it will prove to be a tremendous asset, not just for the Northwoods, but the entire region.
To learn more about the center, you can contact the Howard Young Foundation at 715-439-4005 or visit Howardyoungfoundation.org
The Center will be led by Dr. Andreas Kogelnik, a world renowned leader in the diagnosis and treatment of mystery diseases.
Part of the Center's mission is to help inform people about the dangers of tick-borne illnesses and how to identify their associated symptoms.
Great to meet with some of the folks involved in getting the Center up and running. A big thank you to Trig Solberg and the Howard Young Foundation Board as well as the Open Medicine Institute for their hard work.
There is certainly a need for this type of facility in the Northwoods, and it is great to see the initiative receive so much public support.
Meeting with Oneida County Board
This week, I met with members of the Oneida County Board to discuss several diverse pieces of legislation related to birth cost recovery, work zone safety, canvassing absentee ballots and altering levy limit referendums. Assembly Bill 310, which I am a co-sponsor of, would allow local governments to estimate their net new construction numbers when calculating local levy limits. This would allow local governments to hold referenda during regularly scheduled elections rather than calling for costly special elections that see much lower voter turnout.

Assembly Committee on Forestry, Parks and Outdoor Recreation Informational Hearing
The Committee on Forestry, Parks and Outdoor Recreation, which I am a member of, met this week to hold an informational hearing. The Committee heard testimony from experts from around the state on the topic of Wisconsin forest and mass timber practices. I appreciated learning more about these issues which are so integral to the Northwoods economy.
