Governor Evers Meeting

I had the opportunity this week to have a one on one meeting with Governor Evers to discuss issues pertaining to the Northwoods. We spoke about the importance of tourism in northern Wisconsin, how to improve rural schools, and what we can do to repair our roads. I appreciate the Governor’s willingness to sit down with legislators, and it is my sincere hope that we can work towards finding bi-partisan solutions to many of the tough issues facing Wisconsin and the Northwoods.

Assembly Committee on State Affairs

The Assembly Committee on State Affairs, which I chair, held its first official meeting this past week of the 2019-2020 Legislative Session. The Committee heard public testimony on the following two bills:

Assembly Bill 20 Relating to: terminology changes for those with an intellectual disability in administrative rules.

Assembly Bill 74 Relating to: retail sales of intoxicating liquor for consumption off the licensed premises.

After receiving public input, both bills now have the opportunity to be voted out of the committee during an executive session. I appreciate the folks who made the trip to the Capitol to testify in front of the committee, and I look forward to seeing both pieces of legislation advance in the legislative process.

 American Dental Hygienists

This week I met with Tanya Ponik, a member of the American Dental Hygienists, to talk about dental legislation. Tanya is a dental hygienist in Rhinelander and we had a great discussion regarding how to improve dental care in Wisconsin. It’s always great to meet with constituents, and I appreciate Tanya making the trip down to Madison.

 Bruce Carlson Reappointed

Great to hear that Bruce Carlson has been reappointed by Governor Evers to Wisconsin’s Funeral Directors Examining Board. Bruce is a lifelong resident of Rhinelander. The Carlson funeral home has been serving the community for generations.

University of Wisconsin - Green Bay Chancellor Meeting

I had the opportunity to meet with University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Chancellor Gary Miller this week to discuss the importance of the UW-System to the state. UWGB acquired the Marinette campus and is another great educational option for students in Northern Wisconsin.

 Honoring George Kveck

The Three Lakes community suffered another loss this week with the passing of George Kveck. George has been a pillar of the Three Lakes community for decades and will be dearly missed. As a decorated World War II veteran, George would always go above and beyond in his support of our veterans. Upon moving to Three Lakes, George became heavily involved with American Legion Post #431, serving as the Club Manager for 37 years. George also served at Commander of the American Legion, Oneida County Commander, Oneida County American Legion Finance Officer, and Chef de Gare of the 40 et 8. George and his wife Violet were just shy of celebrating 76 years of marriage. My heartfelt condolences go out to Violet and the entire Kveck family.
