The Wisconsin State Building Commission met this week to vote on state and UW-system building and improvement proposals. The Building Commission, chaired by Governor Evers, is a bi-partisan committee responsible for reviewing and voting on renovation and construction projects. Among this week’s approved projects are renovations to Babcock Hall on the UW-Madison campus and funding for juvenile correction facilities across Wisconsin.

Governor Evers Vetoes Middle Class Tax Cut
I was extremely disappointed to see Governor Evers veto another middle-class tax cut this week. Thanks to our fiscal responsibility over the past decade, Wisconsin currently enjoys a sizeable budget surplus. Our proposed $250 million tax cut passed in the Assembly and Senate with bipartisan support and would have rightfully returned surplus funds to the taxpayers. Unfortunately, the Governor’s veto is yet another example of him choosing to put politics over prudent policy. This is the second middle-class tax cut that the Governor has vetoed in the past two years. The bill would have saved the average filer $106 annually and paid down $100 million in state debt. I believe you know how to spend your hard-earned money better than the government does, and I will continue to fight to reduce the tax burden on low- and middle-income families.
Badger State Sheriffs Association Meeting
This week, I was invited by three sheriffs from the 34th Assembly District to attend the Badger State Sheriffs Association meeting in Madison. I had the opportunity to sit in on a presentation from a Colorado county sheriff regarding marijuana legalization. Now that marijuana has been legal for the past six years in Colorado, the sheriff was able to provide examples of the complex challenges it has presented for law enforcement. I appreciated the opportunity to hear his perspective on the issue as marijuana legalization will continue to be contentious, not just in Wisconsin, but throughout the country.
