Wisconsin State Building Commission

I am grateful to have been nominated by Governor Evers and unanimously elected by the members of the Wisconsin State Building Commission to serve as Vice-Chair of the Building Commission. The Commission held its first meeting of the 2019-2020 legislative session this Wednesday and approved several building projects.  The Building Commission is a bipartisan, eight-member body chaired by Governor Evers, along with six legislators and a citizen member. The group's mission is to plan, oversee, and approve building projects around the state. The Building Commission is split between the Higher Education Sub-Committee, which I am a member of, and the Administrative Affairs Sub-Committee.

Looking forward to working with Governor Ever's and my colleagues on the Building Commission to ensure responsible fiscal management of our state building projects.

Governor Evers Vetoes Middle Class Tax Cut

Veto.jpg (1)

This week Governor Ever’s vetoed the Middle Class Tax Cut Bill that would have saved the average family over $300. It is disappointing to see that the Governor vetoed this tax cut despite his call to work together towards bi-partisan solutions.

Assembly Republicans offered the Middle Class Tax Cut Bill as a good faith effort to fulfill one of Governor Ever’s campaign promises. We did not, however, agree with raising taxes on farmers or manufacturers to do so. Instead, our plan would have utilized Wisconsin’s $588 million budget surplus to give tax relief to hardworking individuals making under $100,000 and families making under $150,000. The budget surplus rightfully belongs to taxpayers, and it is frustrating to see some in Madison put partisan politics above giving hardworking individuals and families tax relief.

Wisconsin Technical College System Student Showcase

It was great to see Nicolet College take part in the Wisconsin Technical College System Student Showcase in the Capitol Rotunda this week. Students hosted an impressive booth on the Native American Tribal Management Certificate, and I enjoyed talking with them about their work and aspirations. Thanks again for stopping by!

The booth had a great display of Native American cultural items.

It was great to speak with current students of the program.

Nicolet College Students Zachary Cummings and Molly Wagler gave a great overview of the WTCS' legislative priorities. Both will be transferring to UW-System schools, and I wish them all the best!
