Legislation Advances to Defund Planned Parenthood

After the summer recess, the Wisconsin State Legislature is back in session and taking action on a number of measures.

Over the summer, numerous videos surfaced revealing the barbaric scheme of Planned Parenthood harvesting aborted baby body parts for profit. In response, I’ve taken action to co-author legislation, Assembly Bill (AB) 305, which would put an end to this horrid activity. The bill has passed out of committee and as a co-author of the bill, I will continue to push for its approval.

In addition, this week the State Assembly took action to ensure tax dollars do not go to organizations performing abortions in Wisconsin like Planned Parenthood. While those in Washington fail to act, we passed AB 310, which would direct federal tax dollars away from Planned Parenthood. Specifically, AB 310 would redirect $3.5 million in federal “Title X” family planning funding away from organizations that perform abortions. Currently, Wisconsin is only one of three states where this federal funding solely goes to Planned Parenthood. The money will instead be directed by the Department of Health Services to organizations that focus on women’s health.

This action compliments our actions back in 2011 during my first term when the legislature worked with Governor Walker to remove all state taxpayer funding from Planned Parenthood.
