Many thanks to these long-term care
providers who made the trip from Sheboygan County to visit the Capitol
this week! Like so many industries in Wisconsin, their industry
faces a nearly desperate shortage of employees. Our state's
all-time record high labor participation rate is great news for
employees everywhere: demand for your labor has never been higher!
On the broader topic of health care: I've
voted repeatedly in this legislative session with Assembly Republicans
to protect you from the Obamacare disaster. With insurers fleeing
the individual market one after another, Governor Scott Walker just
signed into law Senate Bill 770 to help stabilize the marketplace;
Minnesota recently implemented a similar plan and saw rates go down
by at least 20 percent. I also voted for a bill to ensure
that, no matter what happens in Washington with Obamacare, a group
health benefit plan in Wisconsin may not penalize you or limit your
coverage due to a preexisting condition and may not take into account
your health status when setting rates; regrettably, not a single
Wisconsin Democrat voted with me on this bill.
You deserve better than Obamacare.
You ought to have more than one or maybe two health care plans available
in your county. You definitely don't deserve the 100% rate
increase that Obamacare created right next door to you in northeast
Wisconsin. That's why we acted now to make sure you have access to
affordable care before it is too late!
As always, I encourage you to follow
my updates on
social media or contact
my office directly with your questions. Best wishes on your weekend!

You Can
Make a Difference
Coming up soon on the evening of Monday,
April 9th, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Wisconsin
Conservation Congress will hold their annual spring hearings across the
state. Every county's meeting occurs at the same date and time; the
Sheboygan County meeting will occur in the Plymouth High School Auditorium
at 7:00 PM.
If you've never been to one of these events,
it's really something! The general public is invited and welcome to
vote on a wide-ranging series of recommendations that directly informs the
policy process, and you even have the opportunity to propose ideas directly
for the Congress to consider in the future. I strongly recommend that
you get ahead of the game by reading the meeting agenda,
now available online, so that you may research your voting options
before you arrive.
Also: the design contests are now open (until
mid-July) for artists to submit images to be selected for the 2019 state
Wild Turkey, Pheasant and Waterfowl Stamps. Hunters who purchase these
stamps (as part of the hunting license required to pursue these species)
fund the restoration and management of thousands of acres of wildlife
habitat.
