Honoring and Remembering our Servicemen and Women
Hello,
Memorial Day is a time to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our great country. We live in the greatest country in the world and enjoy our freedoms because of the sacrifice of our fallen servicemen and women.
There might not be many parades this year, but we can still do our part in honoring those have paid the ultimate sacrifice. We can pray for the families who have lost a loved one while serving overseas, fly an American flag, work to protect the freedom that our fallen heroes have given their lives to defend, and more.
This coming Memorial Day won't be like those in years past. The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) announced there will be no public events at the state's veterans cemeteries next week due to COVID-19. WDVA officials said the cemeteries will still be open to the public from sunrise to sunset every day. Visitors are asked to observe social distancing guidelines and consider visiting on a less busy weekend.
Manitowoc has also cancelled their Memorial Day Parade. However, there will be a Memorial Day Ceremony taking place at 10:30 am, airing live 1240AM WOMT Radio. It will also be on Facebook Live on the City of Manitowoc and Mayor Justin Nickels Facebook pages. Please tune it!
