State Title Makes it to Manitowoc

Roncalli Trophy 500.jpg

Hello,

A huge CONGRATULATIONS goes out to the Roncalli boys basketball team for winning the 2018 WIAA Division 4 State Championship last weekend. This is the first boys basketball state title in Manitowoc County since 1968. The Roncalli boys basketball team went 23-5 this season, which is an incredible feat.

I would also like to congratulate the Valders boys basketball team on a great season. Though they came just short of winning the Division 3 title, the boys did a tremendous job throughout the season, demonstrating exemplary teamwork and perseverance.

When I saw two boys basketball teams from my district were in state championship games, I was eager to watch in Madison. Over the past five years I have made many trips down to Madison, but this was one of the best. I watched delightedly as Roncalli secured the title, and even with the loss I was truly proud of Valders. Both teams fought hard and gave it their all in those games. I am honored to have witnessed that type of competition.

Boys basketball isn't the only sport gaining notoriety in our community. Manitowoc and Calumet Counties sent many students to state this year! Congratulations to all the exceptional schools, coaches, and athletes that recently participated in state competition, including:

  • The Manitowoc Lutheran girls basketball team, making their first state appearance in school history.
  • Jackson Linsmeier, a wrestler from Valders.
  • The Chilton/Hilbert wrestling team who made it to state, and Gaven Lisowe from Chilton who made it to the individual wrestling championships.
  • Brandon Stelzer, a wrestler from Reedsville.
  • Members of the Brillion/Valders/Chilton swim and dive team.
  • Brynn Tackett, a gymnast from Manitowoc Lincoln who competed in five events.
  • Katie Thomsen, a gymnast from Valders/Roncalli who competed in one event as a freshman
  • Honorable mention: The Valders girls basketball team made it to the sectional semi-final game after a tremendous season.

How incredible. Our schools and our kids are a cut above the rest, and this is just one way that shows through. As always, if there is anything I can do to assist you, please contact me. You can share your thoughts, find out additional information on issues, or see where I stand on any legislation. I look forward to hearing from you and, as always, working for you.

Sincerely,

Artificial Intelligence

On Tuesday, the Committee on Jobs and the Economy had an informational hearing. The topic of the day: artificial intelligence. We heard from a variety of speakers throughout the morning and early afternoon. The focus was on artificial intelligence and other disruptive digital technologies and their impact on Wisconsin businesses, workforce needs, and educational programming. The thoughtful discussion helped us legislators get a better understanding of the technology, and I am eager to learn more.

WHA Advocacy 500.jpg

Wisconsin Hospital Association in Madison

On Wednesday, constituents came in as part of the Wisconsin Hospital Association's Advocacy Day. We discussed the high quality health care in Wisconsin and opportunities for improvement. This includes increasing some providers and properly equipping the practitioners.

As chairman of the Mental Health Committee, this notion stuck with me. I have been researching and writing bills to help bring in and retain mental health providers in Wisconsin. The WHA advocates provided helpful comments relating to improving mental health services in the state.

We also discussed other topics like Medicaid reimbursement and worker's compensation. I had a wonderful time meeting with these women who help make health care in the state and in our communities exceptional.

 4 1/2 E-Updates Left!

We have only a few e-updates left before the April 15th deadline.I say 4 1/2 because we will be sending another e-update tomorrow re-capping today's legislative session on school safety.

This is an election year and the law restricts what elected officials can send out to constituents between April 15th and the November election. You can still contact me for information or to voice your opinions after the deadline.
