Alzheimer's Bill Package Heads Out of Committee

MH 500.jpg

Hello,

I hope you have been enjoying a break from the frigid cold! Things around the capitol have also been thawing, as many bills move through committee in preparation for session this month. Many bills in the Alzheimer's and Dementia bill package, introduced in November of 2017, were voted out of committee this week.

On Tuesday, I chaired the Mental Health Committee meeting and voted in favor of each bill from the package that was up for a vote. The bills that passed include:

  • AB 628: Alerts for missing adults & a license review
  • AB 629: Uniform adult guardianship jurisdiction
  • AB 630: Establishing a dementia specialist certification
  • AB 631: Creating a caregiver income tax credit
  • AB 632: Grant funding for Alzheimer's & dementia awareness

These bills passed out of committee with nearly unanimous and bipartisan support. It has been rewarding to work with a variety of legislators on both sides of the aisle to pass mental health bills that will benefit vulnerable populations in Wisconsin.

Be careful tonight as the weather changes again and gets much colder. If there is anything I can do to assist you, please contact my office. You can share your thoughts, find out additional information on issues, or see where I stand on any legislation. I look forward to hearing from you and, as always, working for you.

Sincerely,

Signature 200.jpg

Representative Paul Tittl

Committee Meeting Marathon

In the past two weeks, each of the five committees I am on held meetings. It has been exciting to hear thorough and thoughtful testimony on a variety of bills ranging from compensation for vehicle dealers to talent attraction and retention initiatives in Wisconsin.

I have enjoyed voting bills out of committee in preparation for session, as well. Committee members take the time to research and understand the bills presented to them before deciding on whether or not the bills should proceed. Below you will find a summary of what was discussed in my committees, apart from Mental Health.

Consumer Protection

  • Public Hearing on AB 635: reasonable compensation for vehicle dealers for service work.
  • Executive Session on AB 565: security credit report freeze fees (in favor) and AB 577: grants for food donations to food banks (in favor).

Jobs & Economy

  • Public Hearing on AB 811: talent attraction and retention initiatives in Wisconsin.

Natural Resources

  • Public Hearing on AB 820: proof needed to close an unsafe shooting range and AB 712: management of the wolf population.

Veterans & Military Affairs

  • Executive Session on AB 436: veterans property tax credit (in favor), AB 520: sportsmen's license approvals for veterans with a medal equal to or higher than the Purple Heart (in favor), AB 585: alerts for missing veterans (in favor).
  • Public Hearing and Executive Session on AB 769: requirements for college service members called into duty during school (in favor).

I am also pleased to announce my selection to the Committee on International Affairs and Commerce. It is an honor to serve on all of these committees, and I am looking forward to even more excitement with the addition of this committee assignment.

Wisconsin Nursery & Landscape Association 100th Anniversary Proclamation Presentation

On January 3rd, I attended Governor Walker's proclamation presentation, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Wisconsin Nursery & Landscape Association. They actually had a book detailing the minutes from some of the first meetings. Incredible!

What made this day even more special was the presence of Jeff Edgar (below), from Manitowoc. He represented Silver Creek Nurseries at the event. It was great chatting with Jeff and Governor Walker, and being part of such an incredible celebration. If you need help with a proclamation request, please contact my office and we can assist you.
