Deck the Halls

The Capitol Christmas tree arrived in Madison this week and is now adorned with lights, garland and thousands of ornaments made by elementary school students from around the state.

The tree standing in the rotunda is a 30 foot tall balsam fir from Meyer’s Castle Tree Farm out of Medford, WI, illuminated by two-thousand multi-colored LED lights.

The ornaments hanging around the tree were created by children from both public and private schools with at least one ornament from every school. Each year the governor announces a theme for the handmade ornaments; this year the theme is “celebrate science” demonstrating the impact of science in each student’s life.

On Friday afternoon, Gov. Evers took part in the annual tree-lighting ceremony, officially kicking-off the Christmas season in the Capitol.

Stop by the Capitol during the holidays and see the beautiful tree for yourself!

Tour the Executive Residence

Every year, throughout the month of December, the Executive Residence – commonly referred to as the “governor’s mansion” – is open for public tours.

Similar to the beautiful tree in the rotunda, a Christmas tree from northern Wisconsin was placed in front of the residence last week. Over the weekend, the governor held a tree lighting ceremony to celebrate the holiday season.
